He was killed in his father's lifetime at the battle of Verneuil, fighting on the side of the French against the English.

He was witness to a charter granted 2 December 1423 by Archibald, Earl of Wigtoun, which was confirmed by King James I 8 January 1424-25. He seems to have been knighted. He is described as of lofty stature and powerful build, as were also his father and grandfather.8
