Romar was in America 1907-1908 on a visit with his parents in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and attended for half a year an American school. After returning to Norway he had to move around in the country as his father worked on the Norwegian railways. He had to leave home early. First he stayed with hos grandparents in Trondheim and attended school (Middelskolen), later he lived in Trondheim with his aunt Sophie. He was a student for two years at the Norwegian Institute of Technology" (NTH). Before he finished, he had to attend military service for one and a half year. First, from July 1919 in the cavalry at Gardermoen. In December that year he attended officers candidate school (befalsskole) in Fredrikstad. He continued his education not as an engineer but as a teacher. After some years as a teacher in Trondheim and other places in the country, he was appointed teacher in Oslo, where he worked from 1928 until he retired in 1955. He worked several years in the leadership of his teacher organisation and took part in political work. He was a member of "Norsk Humanetisk Forbund" for 50 years. From 1978 he had to stay in hospital at Lillehammer, having no more hope to go back to his home that he took over after his mother died in 1955.9
